Story of an Artist

This week I bought a dvd called "The Devil and Daniel Johnston" and tonight we finally sat down to watch it. It was outta-sight!
It is a documentary about an artist/musician named Daniel Johnston. Everything was so interesting, and the way it was put together was really cool. I highly recommend it.

Daydream Believer

"Cheer up, sleepy jean.
Oh, what can it mean.
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen."

It's Hairspray

Tonight is the big homecoming banquet. My room smells of hairspray and the sound of blowdryers can be heard all down the hallway. I kind of like the mass chaos right before a big event. Girls running all over the hallway half dressed, two different shoes on, franticaly trying to borrow jewelry or hair accessories. It's a fun time.

Way to Blue

Here is a little look at my studio space. It is inside of a nice sized classroom. We have carpeting, a big projector, dry erase boards and a lot of bulletin boards for pinning up work. I love my little space. I can keep all of my art supplies in here, rather than scattered about my dorm room. I decorated with some vintage postcards from Uncle Fun .

The top picture is my first project from my painting class. We had to use our fingers to paint a still life of paper towel rolls and boxes. I like the way it came out.

Fall Away

Today is the Autumnal Equinox.
Fall has officially started, though it does not feel like it.
Oh how I wish this horribly hot weather would leave.
Autumn is my favorite season.

Josh gave me a plant today. He wanted to repay me for doing him a bunch of favors lately.
I have not had much luck with plants in the past.
Hope I don't kill this one...

Someday soon I will remember to take my camera to studio and then you can see what I've actually accomplished here.

The City Is Here For You To Use

Day #2 of Renegade.
It was so nice, we went twice.

Barb and I went back for more crafty fun @ Renegade, and we took Trish and my mom with us.
Here are all of the goodies I accumulated over the weekend.

Funny story about the ribbon magnet. I have been talking about making something like it for a long time now. We actually had a conversation about it on the way to Renegade yesterday, and then there it was! Ta-da!
I saw so many of my favorite vendors this year: Rar Rar Press , Etsy , Readymade Magazine ...

We also discovered a fantastic little shop called Penelope's . That is where I bought the hedgehog tape.

Silver Lining

Today I went to the Renegade Craft Fair & the Rilo Kiley concert with Barb and Chris.
What a fantastic way to spend the day!
Renegade was such a great time. Barb and I intend to return tomorrow.

It was a bit surreal to be in a theatre packed with Rilo Kiley fans. I barely ever meet people who have heard of them... This new album release has really boosted their fame. They have been featured in a lot of different magazines lately.

Cramming into the train with half the audience was a fun experience. We met a really sweet woman who was very surprised to see so many people pile onto the train in the middle of the night. She was eager to hear about the show, and supply us with plenty of her favorite chewing gum - watermelon.

The Trapeze Swinger

This song is so relaxing.

The weather this week has been amazing. Fall is so close you can almost taste it.

I took a trip into the city with my classmates over the weekend. We had to study Greek Vases at the Art Institute for our art history class. It was a quick trip, but we made the most of it. I really enjoyed the Jeff Wall exhibit.

Today we voted for the Homecoming Court, and oddly enough I was voted on, along with a few of my friends, Adam, Rachel, & Ben.
Pretty Exciting.
Now I just need a date...
Tomorrow is Day 1 of the Renegade Craft Fair, and the Rilo Kiley concert is at night. I can't wait!

Come On! Feel The Illinoise!

Well, I have been in classes for about a week now.
Art History just might kill me.
Typography is awesome, but very time consuming.
I have made some truly fantastic new friends, and I am so glad to be near my dear old friends again.
Life in The Tower is awesome.
Nancy and I are ridiculous together.
Barb mostly just shakes her head.
Having a TV rocks, especially when you buy a DVD player.
I bought a Camera Obscura cd and it is really amazing. Where have they been all my life?
Soon I will be learning how to use oil paints.
New painting teacher. He's cool.
He wore a Sufjan Stevens shirt to class.
You can never have too much Sufjan.
