Phantom Limb

I've been working around a nature/garden theme lately. I am playing around with the dynamic of Industry vs Nature.

This is my latest painting. I call it Phantom Limb.

How We Operate

I got up early to head for the city today. We had to go to the Art Institute for a class project. Now I love to go to Chicago, and the Art Institute is awesome, but it really sucks to have to cut out a chunk of time to go, spend money on the train, the museum, and maybe some food, only spending about an hour inside the place, in one gallery, just to meet a requirement for a paper.
I didn't get the best sleep last night because the fire alarm went off around 2:00 am. I guess there was a small fire in the boys kitchen. We got to go stand in the cold in our pjs.
Yay college.

Rollercoaster

I met with the registrar yesterday to figure out my plan for the rest of college. It looks like I will finish in 3 more semesters (not including this one.) My final semester, I hope to be in Chicago doing this internship program that our school is part of.
I've been listening to the Juno soundtrack nonstop. I don't really have any pictures of my work to show. (I forgot to take my camera to studio) So here is a little video for you to enjoy. It is for Locate the Pieces by Matt Pond PA

Graduation Rap

Well, I do hope that some of you who read this have seen the movie Ghost World. I used to see it at the library all the time, and I just loved the cover image, but I didn't see the movie until a few months ago. Though I hadn't watched the movie, it actually shaped a lot of my style over the past few years. I would always think back to that image.

I bought this shirt at a thrift store because it reminded me so much of Enid's blue raptor shirt.

In other exciting news, a lot has happened this first week of school. There is a possibility that I can graduate a year early. Unfortunately I realized this and asked the registrar's office about it on Friday, so I have to wait till they are back in the office this week to find out if it really is possible. I really hope that I can pull it off, I have grown very restless here. I was ready to be done with college before it began really. I think it stems from the fact that college is supposed to be the time in a person's life when they break away, leave home to go out into the world, but not for me. I didn't leave home, my family is still right here, I'm in the same town I have been in since 6th grade. Don't get me wrong, I love my family, and I am so thankful for the free education I receive, but I am ready to break away. For now, I just have to wait and see.

Back To The Start

This is the beginning of semester #4. I am only taking 2 classes a day, a nice schedule which gives me open afternoons 3 days a week. I wanted to make sure I had enough time for what I have taken on this semester. Two history classes, bleah, speech, which should be fine, and a really intense art class called methods and critique. It is like 2 classes combined into one. Being the youngest in the class, I'm ready to work super hard to stay at the level the professors expect. We have no assignments as far as the artwork goes, because it is about defining your style and exploring what your work is. We have lots of "busy work" assignments to do though. Since I switched majors, and am not taking classes with the same group of people, I'm in a new studio. It is pretty awesome though, I share the old painting room with two guys, so we each get a lot of space to work.

Getaway

Chris and I took a little trip up to his home in Wisconsin over the weekend to visit family & friends. It was so nice to get out of Elgin before heading back to classes on Tuesday. I spent the night at my lovely friend Deanna's house. Thanks D!

It was fun to finally meet people that Chris is always talking about. And I got his mom to pull out a bunch of old photo albums full of adorable (and sometimes embarrassing) pictures of his early years. What was really cool to see, was that we had a lot of the same toys like a mickey mouse doll and a totally sweet telephone. His mom gave me a picture of 1st grade Chris, but to spare him any further embarrassment, I won't post it.

I finished up two necklaces I've had in my head for some time, like this gator.

And so ends Christmas break.

Televisor

Has TV run out of ideas? I think so. They have stretched the concept of reality TV as far as they can with elimination competitions for top models, super models, photographers, designers, hair dressers, washed up celebrities, and people who don't really seem to do much of anything, yet are still on TV... Please, we don't need another "I'm looking for love so I'm gonna fool around with these 10 gorgeous people as I slowly pick them off" show. Now they have to start bringing back things. I was watching the premier episode of American Gladiators, a show that died off 15 years ago and has now been resurrected, and that is when I saw the above trailer for the re-make of Knight Rider. Apparently it is going to be a two hour movie event, which they hope to continue as a series, and yes, Hasselhoff is back...

I don't want you to think I'm anti TV, I do find it hard to really keep up with shows while in school, but it makes you choose the really good ones to stick with. And thanks to the magic of the internet, I can watch a lot of shows at my convenience now. So, what do I think is worth watching?

Pushing Daisies - very quirky and jam packed with witty dialogue
Lost - eh, they never answer your questions, but I just never get tired of it!
The 4400 - way complex, being 4 seasons in, and you kind of have to start from episode 1 season 1, but its so worth it!
Project Runway - the current season is the best yet! I find myself wanting all of them to stay!
The King of Queens - reruns on all the time, always good for a laugh

The Moviegoer

Casper was on abc family today. They play it quite often I've noticed, which is great since I don't own it. Well, seeing Christina Ricci reminded me that her new movie, Penelope, is coming out soon. I saw the trailer for it several months ago and I was instantly smitten. It looks so amazing! I'm already crazy about the costumes, just look at her coat!

The release date is February 29, and I'm counting down the days.

The New Year

"So this is the new year..."

I just got back from Florida. My family had to go down there for my grandfather's funeral.
Flying was dreadful! One of our flights got cancelled and my parents spent most of the day arguing with the three airlines involved just to get on another flight.
I want to avoid flying as much as possible for the rest of my life.

On a brighter note, here are a few pictures from some Antique shops in Mount Dora.

A rat with a monocle?

I snapped this shot of the mushroom basket for Sarah. I also think the little RCA dog is adorable.

This picture didn't come out so good, but I just loved this little half-sized glass. It is so quirky!
