Summer's Cake

Today I decided to bake a cinnamon applesauce cake (even though my mother tells me that it is a fall thing. Sorry mom, I just love it too much to wait for fall.) It is my favorite thing to bake because it has very few ingredients and it is pretty simple and successful. I recently remembered that my aunt had given us these adorable French aprons. This one still had the tags on it. Under the picture it says 'pomme' We also have a blue one with a snail, or should I say escargot! Oh how fun it was when we had relatives in Europe...

My kitchen productivity continues with some 'cinnamon sunset' iced tea, and later on Chris and I will be making some mixed berry popsicles. I guess I am getting more comfortable in the kitchen, as long as I don't have to touch raw meat it's all good. I decided to put together my own scrapbook style cookbook with all of my favorite recipes of my mother's. If you know of anywhere I can find some good retro kitchen images for it please let me know.

I bought this crazy curling iron recently.

Yep. It's hot pink, and it lights up different colors. Since my hair is curly I always thought that there was no reason to have one but it actually makes things so much better. I can curl my hair and since it has a natural tendency to curl it actually holds in place really well.

I also bought some Velcro hair curlers, which my family really enjoyed seeing. My dad proceeded to call me by as many old lady names as he could think of. Blanch was my personal favorite.

Arc of a Journey

Today Chris and I went to see Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3D. It was both of our first 3D movie, and possibly my last. I just don't think my heart can handle it. I have never done well with surprises (something that my little sister picked up on pretty early and used against me for most of our growing up.) So even though I enjoyed the movie, and am glad to have finally experienced a 3D film, I doubt if I will be rushing out to see another one anytime soon. There was one effect that I thoroughly enjoyed, and that was a tiny glowing blue bird that zipped around the screen and sometimes hovered in front of you. It was very cute.

After the movie we visited this store called Mister Kitschy, which is pretty much like Uncle Fun in Chicago.

I resisted buying this cookbook, a reproduction of the 1955 original. I decided against it because Chris pointed out that for a majority of the recipes the main ingredient was a boxed or canned product such as biscuit mix, which already comes with instructions.

The latest creations from the craft department are hair clips.

Some are on bobby pins...

and some are on snap clips.

I am very fond of them.

Now It' Done

Well, it certainly has been a while. Yesterday was my last day of printmaking class. I am really sad about it because I loved that class so much, but it will definitely make things less hectic.

Also, I finally got a Flikr account. I know, it's about time. I don't know why I never looked into it earlier. I will still post a lot of pictures on here, and keep my Picasa albums, but I have added a link over on the right side for my Flicker photos.

I have lots of shirts that will be going into my etsy shop so be sure to check it out.

Here are a few of my most recent ones:

They will all be available in the shop.

One Of These Things First

First and foremost I would like to say Happy Birthday to Sam!

She turned 20 today. I took over an extra special notebook that I decked out for her in green plaid paper.

I also went to the thrift store with my mom today and we managed to find some pretty awesome stuff. My purchase included:

Ghost World on VHS! Hopefully its still in working condition, but it can't be worse than the horrid library DVD. Also, this book from the 60's. Such adorable illustrations!

Then we have this wonderful hand painted mushroom plaque. Not sure when exactly it is from, but I would bet it came straight out of the 70's. It will be making its way into my etsy shop soon.

This adorable little wooden light switch cover will also be appearing in the shop soon.

I don't usually buy things from the thrift store with the intention of selling them, but these two lovely finds were just too good to pass up.
